Holt Makes History, Eovaldi Tosses Best Red Sox Playoff Start Since 2013

Did you see that coming?  I know a guy who did.

By Ted Gay   – @TedG63

He lives in upstate New York.  He’s got a blog and a Twitter account.  He has been posting about the Bombers for years.  If you ask him, he will tell you he is an expert. He knows more than all of us.  He knows the Yankees suck.

While others write and tweet about the Yankee’s success and the never-ending faith New York fans have in their team, he posts about Gary Sanchez being unreliable, Luke Volt being a streak guy due to cool off, the rookies being butchers at their positions, and how a weak bottom third of the lineup will doom them.  In short, he agrees with what 35,000 Red Sox chant during a game. “The Yankees Suck!”

He predicted last night’s outcome.  He knew Luis Severino was a fraud. He knew Aaron Boone was overmatched; He knew the Yankees couldn’t hit good pitching. He has been saying this all season.

Yankee fans.  They’re just like us!

Monday’s score does not in any way reflect the talent difference between these two squads.  Severino’s Mr. Hyde side appeared, Boone stuck with him too long, then managed the game like he was facing the Royals in May, bringing in Lance Lynn, Lynn If He Pitching It’s A Sin, an acquisition so pedestrian even Tony Mazz was unimpressed, and the Sox offense, which is like flowing water, which can be contained, but, when it finds a weakness, bursts through destroying everything in its path, put the game away early.

It was great, given his role as an everyman, to see Brock Holt get his name in the record book by hitting for the cycle.  Ian Kinsler needs the Sox to win the series while Brock goes 0-10 to see the starting lineup again. It was doubly good to stick this performance in the faces of those who maligned Holt for years.  He has never had the most talent, but he busts ass every game. Forget Benny and the Betts. This site should be called Goodbye Yellow Brock Holt.

When a team wins by 15 runs, it is easy to forget the pitcher, but Nate Eovaldi had the best Red Sox postseason start in five years.  His rough August and early September had many labeling his trade a bust. At least for one night, he validated Dombrowski’s belief in him.

Somehow we have a 2-1 lead in this series without having to rely heavily on the bullpen.  The pitching matchup favors the Sox tonight. I still see this going five, with the Sox winning, so tonight is going to be playing with house money.

And if the Yankees lose Game Four, I think we’ll see Mike Soscia managing in the Bronx come April.
